Summary: Very good camera
Comment: Very good camera. It performs as promised considering it's a "point & shot". Size is perfect and it slides without a problem into your pants pocket. Good image colors, very intuitive and easy to use menus (you really use the different options)and also with a SD with extra Gigs you have good video. With these videos and good pictures you have a nice material to use in software programs like Photoshop Elements or other popular programs. My only concern, I would like more optical zoom.

Summary: Canon Powershot SD850 IS
Comment: I own a larger Nikon Digital Camera that I purchased a couple of years ago, deciding to go for the Zoom and give up the small size camera that I wanted. I love the Nikon , but grew tired of lugging it around, so I purchased the Canon for the compact size. The size of the Canon is just right, any smaller and it would be difficult to use comfortably. It takes wonderful pictures and has 8 MP's just like my Nikon. If there is any difference in the quality of picture, I can't see it.
I DO suggest that you purchase an extra battery for it as it does not use standard AA.

Summary: Canon SD850 rocks!
Comment: I decided to upgrade my digital canon for this year's trip to Hawaii. I originally bought a Nikon...used it for a week ... returned it and bought the canon SD850. What a gem! I love this camera. Easy to use, comfortable in the hand, special effect options are awesome and so easy! My Hawaii photos are treasures. Super close-up photos of shiny ants on a flower, rain forest ceilings so crystal clear, surfers way out on the water zoomed in clearly, friends and family faces clear with that glimmer in the eyes. I love this camera!!! Check it out!

Summary: LITTLE POWERHOUSE
Comment: After extensive research, I settled on Cannon's SD 850 IS camera. Let me tell you, this is one little camera with A LOT of POWER. If you have children and want to capture all of those precious moments, this camera does it all. My daughter plays softball and I bought this camera to take pictures of the games. The "image stabalization" feature works great, even at max zoom (16x). The pictures were frozen during the action with NO BLUR! This will be the last digital camera you buy for a long, long time.

Summary: A++ for the Canon Digital Elph
Comment: I can not say enough good things about the Canon PowerShot SD850IS Digital Elph! I recently purchased this camera for my wife. She has had a condition called essential tremors since she was a teenager, she is now 50+. She has never been able to use a camera, still or video, because of her hand tremors. The image stabilized Digital Elph did the trick. She can now take great snapshots and is thrilled!

On a more objective note: the SD850IS is small and lightweight and the controls are easy (and intuitive) to use. The lcd screen is large and well lit, with good color rendition. The 'face finder' focus works great with people, not so much with dogs...

Previous reviews have outlined the technical aspects of this camera. Is this a perfect camera for great 8 MP snapshots, absolutely. Does the image stabilization correct for hand movement, YES. (however, individual results my vary) Is it comparable to my Canon EOS 30D, of course not, but then it is not supposed to be.
